DreamEye Visual Park Software Guide

Table of Contents

First, a few words...

let me start by saying that while the software has many features and options, it is by far the most intuitive and easy to use japanese dreamcast software i have ever encountered...
DreamFlyer is very confusing, DreamPassport 3 can be a challenge, and DreamPassport Premier more challenging still, but, we were creating, editing and emailing pictures and videos with dreameye mere minutes after we took it out of the box...
just about everything is done via a graphic interface and icons are a universal language...

the video phone application remains a bit of a mystery and the software's options are HIGHLY confusing, but, aside from those two, a guide is hardly needed...

i am making this guide more for the people who want to know what dreameye and it's software can do and secondly for those who already use it who may have missed a feature or two...

PREREQUISITES

the following configuration is required for many, but not all of the applications within the software...

MAIN MENU

  1. Video Phone
  2. Email Reader
  3. Video Maker/Editor
  4. PhotoFun
  5. Options
  6. DreamPassport 2 Web-Browser

EMAIL READER

when you click the second option on the main visualpark menu it will go to the email screen and give you a pop-up asking if you wish to check your email...
the right button is no and returns you to the main visualpark menu the left button is yes and it will then begin connecting...

with this email reader, you can only read emails, you cannot compose or reply, forward, or even delete (the only exception being that you can delete emails sent with the visualpark software)...

when you view a regular email, you will just see the message, the sender, and the subject line... also note that it DOES NOT recognize any attachment not sent with the dreameye software...

but, the advantage over using a browser is that you can view the pics and vids without having to save them to vmu and load them from the browser file manager...

when it downloads your email, messages containing vids will have a red "V" to the left of the subject line, those containing pics will have a blue "P"...

cicking on a message will get you a pop-up with 3 or 4 choices, depending on if it has a dreameye attachment...

  1. download and view message
  2. delete selected message and check for new messages
  3. check for new messages
  4. disconnect

now, as i said, unless the message was sent with the dreameye software, all you can do is read the message... but, if the message WAS sent with the dreameye software, things are a little different...

if the message contains a pic, the buttons are as follows...

  1. view the pic full-screen
  2. add sender to address book
  3. save pic to vmu

if the message contains a vid...

  1. play/stop the video (full-screen not available)
  2. volume
  3. brightness
  4. add sender to address book
  5. save vid to vmu

PHOTOFUN

ok, when you first click photofun, it will ask you to confirm you want to launch it... left is yes, right is no...

note that pressing the start button at any time within photofun will allow you to exit entirely and return the the main VisualPark menu...

once photofun is loaded, you will be viewing the first pic it has available, whether from the dreameye itself, a vmu, or the disk...

at the top of the screen will be an info bar...
for every pic, you will see certain icons showing the location of the pic currently being viewed...

at any time, you can pull the left trigger to clear the screen and view only the pic...
when you do this, you can browse the pics by using up and down on the dpad...
to begin sorting through the pics on the dreameye, vmu's, and the disk, you can press down on the dpad and a pull down menu of thumbnails will appear...
pulling the right trigger will do the same...
pulling the right trigger a second time will bring up a full-screen view of 12 thumbnails...
and pulling it a third time (or pressing B on the controller) will clear all the thumbnail menus...

at the bottom of the screen, you will have three choices... photoshow, playground, and photoshare... the far left button exits photofun and takes you back to the main visualpark menu...

PHOTOSHOW

the simplest of the three...

you will be given one choice, which will show you your choices of viewing environments...
each of these will cycle through all the pics on the dreameye and the vmu's in a slideshow style with accompanying music... the music can be muted by pressing Y...

note the first choice is the only one that gives you a simple full-screen view with no music...

you can hit A on the controller at any time to pause the slideshow...

hit B on the controller at any time to exit photoshow...

PLAYGROUND

this one is pretty simple to figure out so i will not go into detail...

in this application you can add graphics, titles, frames, effects and otherwise edit the pics...

note that this does not apply only to dreameye pics... you can use this feature to edit any pic stored on the vmu...
however, after you alter them, when you save them it shrinks them down to dreameye pic size, for some reason... so, for anything larger than dreameye pics, it can be sort of pointless...

also important to note is that i have found no way to undo a single addition or effect... it seems you can only undo the entire job (the yellow circling arrow icon), so, be very sure before you add or change something...
also good advice is to SAVE AS YOU GO so if you mess something up, you can always load the most recently saved version and not have to scratch the entire project and start over...

NOTE
after you have altered a pic, if you try to change to another pic or use "B" on your controller to exit, you will be given three choices, consisting of A, Y, or B...

PHOTOSHARE

this is the application you will probably use most...

at the bottom of the screen will be four icons...

also note it will only delete pics from your vmu, your other file are safe...

ONE FINAL IMPORTANT NOTE

emailing pics from photoshare is a bitch...

you can only email one pic at a time and for each one, you have to exit photofun to the emailer, then after you mail the pic, exit the emailer and reload the photofun application...
if you have alot of pics to mail, this is a serious pain...
PLUS, you can only email it with a subject line, you cannot add a message and the subject line space is very limiited for some reason...

best bet is to save them all onto multi-page cards and email them from your favorite email client...

VIDEO MAKER/EDITOR

also very self-explanatory, but, here is a map of the buttons...

  1. play current video
  2. begin recording
  3. volume
  4. brightness
  5. save current video to vmu
  6. load video fom vmu
  7. email current video

ABOUT EMAILING A PIC/VID

when you select 'mail current video', you will get a pop-up box... the left button is to save current video to vmu first before emailing it, the right choice is to email it without saving it first...
to mail a pic, you must first save it to vmu... this is not true of a video...

once you have gone to the mailer, you will see the pic or the first frame of the vid and then the following...

ADDRESS BOOK

when you click on an entry, you will have the following possible icons...
(i will not try describe the entire icon, only the most noticable part...)

the address book entry fields are as follows...

it saves the address book automatically when you exit it...
