Yeah, so, Wesley keeps falling asleep during our nightly family audio theater time on the couch. And, all along, we’ve been trying to stick with shows that will hopefully have some interest for him. We do a quick Jungle Jam episode and then one of our ongoing shows – Second Shift, Leviathan Chronicles, and We’re Alive. We’d really like to be listening to some stuff like BBC’s Afternoon Drama but, again, he’d think that’s boring and he’s only seven, so he’d have a point.
Soooo, we’ve rewritten things.
We start earlier, do a half hour of Jungle Jam (and, when we run out of those, we’ll continue with other kid appeal stuff) and then he goes to bed and we have a full hour for our own listening.
We started with “January”, which turned out to be a weird little story of love and the passing of time. And we liked it. So, it’s working already :)
Tonight, we listened to The Leviathan Chronicles 1.11 and that show is back to rocking and we are glad. We were really worried during those flashback episodes that this show was going bad.
Yesterday we went on a day date to the dollar movies and saw “Mama”. We were really excited after seeing the trailer on Vudu but, uh, meh. Though, she liked it. It’s based on a short film and I bet that is much better. There’s just not enough story to tell to fill a feature-length film.
And don’t get me started about the cinema experience, btw. Cinema has been dead to me for a long time. Movies just aren’t social to me. The responses of strangers is distracting. I have a HOME theater for a reason.
We had annoying teens in front of us, first of all. And I guess it’s cool these days to laugh at scary moments. That was really distracting and took me out of the movie experience repeatedly. There’s a lot more to complain about but, again, it just reinforces my view that cinema is dead. At least to me.
And, the other night, we finally watched Another Earth. (Wow, two movies in one week!) I was very impressed with this one. A truly poignant story with very good restraint – it didn’t let the scifi elements drown out the story. It just drove it along. Great scifi is like that.
Tonight was, I guess, our sixth Wednesday night at Life Church and I pretty much love it. So very excited we finally found a church.
Terra has been learning her way around a DSLR the last month or so and I’ve been trying to get her to take a pic of me with my coffee bar. Well, today, she finally did. We took a whole bunch but here’s (a scaled down version of) my favorite…
